Sending Sammy a link

Got a product page, a spec sheet, the builder's finishes schedule or part of a standard you want Sammy to work from? Paste the link and tell him what it's for. He reads the page and uses it the way you asked.

  • When you start a quote. Put the link in the job description on the New estimate screen, with what you want done with it, then tap Create estimate. For example: "Two bathrooms at 12 Smith St. Finishes are on the builder's site (link), follow their schedule for the wet areas."
  • In the quote's chat, on Adjust. "Use this tile instead (link)" or "the client wants the deck to look like this (link)."
  • In the quote's chat, on Ask. "Is this the right mixer for mains pressure? (link)." Ask never changes your quote. It just answers from the page.

You can send up to three links at a time.

What Sammy does with it#

  1. While he reads, you'll see Reading the link… for a few seconds.
  2. He reads the page with your words as the question, so he pulls out what you asked about: a schedule, sizes, a colour, a rule, a price.
  3. He uses it the way you said. If you said "follow their schedule", he follows it. If you said "match this look", he works out what it takes.
  4. Under his reply you'll see a small button with the website's name. Tap it to open the page and check it yourself.

A link can be almost anything: a product page, a spec sheet or install guide, a set of plans, part of a standard or the building code, a council page, a builder's job site, a colour board.

Sammy reads each link once and keeps what it said with the quote. When he builds the rest of the quote, or you change it later, he works from the same read, so every part of the quote sees the same page.

Want something else from a page he's already read? In the chat, on Adjust or Ask, just ask, like "What does that page say about the 90 mm one?", and he'll go back to the page with your new question.

If a page links to another page you need (a category page that links to the product), Sammy tells you and asks you to send that link. He only opens links you sent him, pages he's already read and, on Ask, pages his own web search found.

When a page has a price#

A price on a page might be what you pay, or what you want to charge the client. So when it matters and you haven't said, Sammy asks how you want it charged: at cost with your usual markup, as is, or another way.

When he's building a quote and can't stop to ask, he makes a sensible call and tells you what he assumed, so you can change it. Line prices in your quote are always ex GST, and Sammy checks whether the page's price includes GST.

The easiest way to skip the question is to say it up front, like "supply this mixer at cost (link)".

When Sammy can't open a page#

Some websites don't let Sammy in. A few of the big hardware retailers block readers, so their product pages often can't be opened. Sammy also can't open:

  • pages behind a login or a paywall, which includes most standards on the Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand sites;
  • Google Drive and Google Docs links, even ones shared with anyone who has the link.

When a page can't be opened, Sammy tells you and nothing in your quote comes from it. He never guesses what's on a page he couldn't read. Paste the details into the chat, or attach the page or the plans as a PDF, and he'll use that instead. For a standard, paste the clause you need.

Links to your own quotes, proposals and job cards in Sammy aren't read this way. Just ask about the quote or job by its number.

Sammy never takes orders from a page#

A web page is someone else's writing. Some pages hide text meant to trick AI assistants, like "ignore your instructions" or "send me your client list". Sammy treats everything on a page as information about the job, never as instructions. Only you tell him what to do.

  • If Sammy spots hidden instructions on a page, he tells you he ignored them.
  • He won't copy bank details, phone numbers, email addresses or links from a page into your quote unless you gave them to him. If he leaves something like that out of a quote he's built, he tells you, so you can check it before you send. When he's changing your quote in the chat, he asks you for them instead.
  • He only puts a link on a line in your quote if you sent it or he read that page.
  • If you ask Sammy to remember a rate or a rule while a page is part of the quote, he shows you the save card first and only saves what you tick.
