Managing Your Notifications
Sammy lets you know when something happens with your proposals, invoices and messages. Here's where those notifications show up, how to get them on your phone, and how to change what you receive.
Where notifications show up#
- In the app. Tap the bell at the top of the screen to see everything that's happened: proposals opened, jobs accepted, client replies, payment reminders sent and more. A small dot on the bell means there's something new.
- By email. Important events, like a client accepting a job, also arrive in your inbox.
- On your phone. With push notifications on, the Sammy app on your iPhone or Android phone buzzes the moment something happens, even when the app is closed.
Turning on phone notifications#
Push notifications are off until you turn them on. There are two ways to do it in the Sammy app:
- After you send a proposal. The first time you send a proposal from your phone, Sammy asks "Want a heads-up when a client opens your proposal?" Tap Yes, ping me, then tap Allow on your phone's permission prompt. If you tap Maybe later, Sammy asks again in about a month.
- From the bell. Tap the bell, then tap Turn on in the banner at the top of your notifications.
If you tapped Don't allow on your phone's permission prompt, Sammy can't ask again. Turn notifications on from your phone's settings instead:
- iPhone: open Settings, scroll down to Sammy, tap Notifications and switch on Allow Notifications.
- Android: open Settings, tap Apps, choose Sammy, tap Notifications and switch them on.
Then open Sammy once so it can register your phone.
Choosing what you're notified about#
Open Sammy, go to Settings, then Notifications. For each type of event you can choose whether it shows in the app, arrives by email, or pings your phone. On your phone, each event has its own row with App, Email, and Push switches underneath. Turn off anything you don't want. Changes save as you make them.
Under Lock Screen Privacy, you can hide proposal values and client names from push notifications on your lock screen. The full details remain available inside Sammy.
Stopping product update emails#
Sammy sometimes emails you about new features and releases. To stop these, tap Unsubscribe at the bottom of any product update email. You don't need to log in, and the change works straight away.
This only stops product updates. Emails about your own quotes, invoices, clients and account still arrive. To turn product updates back on, go to Settings, then Notifications. Under From Sammy, switch Email back on for Updates from the Sammy team.
Signing out#
When you sign out of Sammy on your phone, push notifications for that account stop on that phone. They start again the next time you sign in to the same account. If you share a phone between two Sammy accounts, only the account that's signed in gets pings.
Not getting notifications?#
- Check the bell in the app. If the notification is there but your phone didn't buzz, push is probably off. Follow the steps above to turn it on.
- Check your phone's Do Not Disturb or Focus settings. They silence Sammy along with everything else.
- Make sure you're signed in on the phone you're expecting the buzz on.
- On Android, check that battery saver isn't restricting Sammy in the background.
