Asking Sammy about a quote
The quote's chat has two sides: Adjust changes your quote, Ask answers questions about it. Ask never changes anything, so use it to check numbers, compare against past jobs, or look something up before you decide.
How to ask#
- Open the quote.
- In the chat, tap Ask under the message box.
- Type your question and send it.
Some things to try:
- "What's the biggest cost on this quote?"
- "What did I charge for downlights on my last few jobs?"
- "Is my tiling rate in line with my supplier's price list?"
- "What does the current standard say about wet area waterproofing?"
- "Is this mixer right for mains pressure? (link)"
What Sammy can look up#
When your question needs more than the quote in front of him, Sammy looks it up before he answers:
- This quote: every line, the totals, the project plan and the version history.
- Your past quotes, so he can tell you what you charged last time.
- Your supplier price lists and your saved rates, instructions and kits.
- The web. He searches for things like standards, product details and council rules.
- Links you send, read the way you asked. See Sending Sammy a link.
- The Sammy help guides, when you ask how something in Sammy works.
While he works you'll see what he's doing, like Looking at your past quotes…, Searching the web… or Reading the link…. A quick question takes a few seconds. A big one, where he checks several things, can take a minute or two.
When an answer comes from a web page, there's a small button with the website's name under his reply. Tap it to open the page and check it yourself.
What Ask won't do#
- Change your quote. If you want a change, switch to Adjust and tell Sammy what to do.
- Guess. If he can't find something, or a website won't let him in, he says so. He won't make up an answer.
- Take orders from a web page. Sammy treats what's on a page as information only. If a page has hidden text trying to give him instructions, he ignores it and tells you.
Good to know#
- Sammy remembers the last few messages in the chat, so you can follow up: "and what about the one before that?"
- Prices in your quote are always ex GST. When he gives you a price from a web page, he says whether the page's price includes GST.
- If you're in a team, Sammy looks at your team's past quotes, the same ones you can see in Sammy.
