Joining a Team When You Already Have an Account
Been invited to join a team, but you already use Sammy on your own? Here's how joining works and what happens to your existing account.
Accepting the invite#
- Open the invitation email and tap Accept invitation
- If you're already signed in, you just confirm and you're in
- If you're not signed in, sign in with your existing Sammy login first, then confirm
If you already have quotes, clients, rate rules or AI instructions in your own account, Sammy shows you how many before you accept, under Your own work stays in your account, with what stays the same and what changes when you join. It's a heads-up, not a blocker: you can still accept once it has loaded. If you sign in from the invite page, Sammy stops after signing in so you can read it, then you tap Accept invitation.
If you pay for Pro yourself, the same box tells you what happens to that plan.
The invite link is good for 7 days. If it's expired, ask the person who invited you to send a fresh one.
What happens to my own account?#
You keep the same login — same email and password. What changes is that your account joins the team's shared workspace. From now on, when you open Sammy you'll see the team's estimates, clients, kits and settings, and everyone on the team can see the work you do there.
Does my old work come across?#
Not straight away. When you join, the work you made on your own stays personal to you. Your quotes list and dashboard show the team's quotes, not yours, and Sammy prices with the team's rate rules and AI instructions, not your own. Your own clients, invoices and projects still show in their lists. Nothing is deleted.
Your team's owner or an admin can bring it into the team for you. If you want your old work in the team, ask them. They'll see a line under your name in Settings → Team saying what's still in your own account, with a Move to team button, and they can check what comes across before they confirm.
A few things to know:
- Only the owner or an admin can do it. It's their call what goes into the shared workspace, so there's no button for members.
- Everyone in the team can see and edit it once it's in. It can't be undone from the app.
- It then belongs to the team. If you leave later, that work stays with the team.
- Your quote numbers don't change. The team's next quote number carries on after the highest one in the team, so two quotes can end up with the same number if you and the team both used it.
- Your pricing setup only comes if they choose it. Your rate rules, AI instructions and custom terms documents stay personal unless the owner or admin ticks the box to bring them too.
- Some things always stay yours. How you trained Sammy, your quote and invoice terms, your payment instructions, your terms settings and your Xero connection stay personal: the team uses the owner's.
- Jobs can't come across yet. Your Jobs (with their costs, files and contracts), documents attached to quotes, and records of who accepted a quote stay personal for now, even when the quote itself is brought in.
What about my own subscription?#
You don't need your own Pro plan once you're on a team. Members get full Pro as part of the team plan.
If you pay for Pro by card: Sammy ends your own Pro plan for you when you join. You're not charged for it again. If you'd already paid for time you haven't used, that amount goes to the team's account as a credit and comes off the team's next bill. It isn't refunded to your card.
Sammy only ends the plan you had when you joined. If you start a new Pro plan of your own after that, Sammy leaves it alone and it keeps running.
If the team's own payment is overdue on the day you join, Sammy leaves your plan running. Once the team is paid up, Sammy ends the plan you had when you joined, the next time you open the app. If your plan hasn't been ended within 30 days of you joining, Sammy leaves it alone. It keeps running until it's cancelled, so get in touch if you'd like us to end it.
If you pay through the App Store or Google Play: Sammy can't cancel that plan for you. Cancel it in the store once you've joined, or you'll keep paying for it. Sammy shows a reminder under Settings → Team until it has ended.
If you leave the team later, your old plan doesn't come back. You'd start a new Pro plan to keep the full features.
Do I have to set anything up?#
No. As an invited member you skip the usual setup — you don't pick a trade, set markups or build a first estimate. You inherit all of that from the business you're joining and land straight on the shared dashboard, ready to work.
What if I leave later?#
If you leave the team, you lose access to the shared workspace and your account goes back to the free Basic plan. Anything you created while on the team stays with the team. See Leaving or Removing a Team Member.
